Exmoor Photography By David Hawtin

Photography of Exmoor the surrounding area

Photography inspired by the Exmoor landscape and coastline David photographs mainly in this area but also Cornwall, Dartmoor and the surrounding areas.

Photography, a life long interest

It was during his late teens that David became interested in photography. Training as an Engineer he was fortunate to join a company that had keen photographers and a darkroom. It seems a long time ago to him now, the smell of chemicals and hours spent processing negatives. Now David uses a digital camera and prints using a large format Canon printer.

Printing and interpretation

David started printing for Melody while still working as an Engineer. Back in 2003, when the process was relatively new, the skills had to be learned the hard way. Now David sees the printing process as an integral part of the photography, as with the old black and white days the finished picture was as much about interpretation and developing the image as it was taking the picture

The process of taking the picture, interpreting the image and finally printing on paper appeals to David’s engineering background. To look at the image on the back of the camera and then be able to hang a framed photo is an amazing process, each step adds dignity to the image, it is the part that makes photography worthwhile.

Giclée prints of photographs

The categories above are for Giclée prints, these we provide on either Hahnemühle fine art paper of canvas printed by David using a Canon IPF8300 large format printer with 12 pigment inks giving a lightfastness of over 100 years. In general terms this means that in normal room conditions a print will not fade during it’s normal life.

Prints on canvas are additionally protected by Hahnemühle Lacquer, this is a totally clear but protective coating that provides some UV protection for the print and some mechanical protection allowing the surface to be wiped clean.

All prints are signed by David with a title and with an edition number if appropriate to the print.

Delivery of your artwork

Framed photographs will be flat packed as appropriate to the size.

Fine art prints on either paper or canvas will be shipped in a cardboard tube, we recommend that pictures are unwrapped by a framer as it is possible to damage the surface especially with paper prints as the paper will be quite spring like after being in the tube.

Shipping of paintings within the UK is free. Shipping to other parts of the world will be charged at cost.

Framing Service

Within the UK we can also offer prints framed in a range of mouldings and are happy to advise the cost of this service, similarly we can provide canvas prints stretched on high quality stretcher bars. We do not offer this as standard on the website as their is always such a wide range of options. Framed prints can be shipped within mainland UK.
