The Emperor – Exmoor Red Stag Painting


The Emperor – now famous Red Stag of Exmoor who at the time was probably the largest wild animal in Britain.  Red Stag and herds of deer roam freely on Exmoor it being common to see small herds and sometimes 50 to a hundred.  The main time to see them is during the rutting season, which is from late September to November, at these times the stag will be competing and protecting their deer.
